Tornadoes

Tornadoes are one of the windiest type of weather! A tornado is a big funnel-shaped wind that swirls around! Tornadoes can destruct and knock down everything in it’s path!

A tornado is a big and extreme thing! They are made with warm and  moist air from Golf Mexico and cool, dry air from Canada! When these masses mix, they create instability in the atmosphere, and then it makes a tornado! They form from the extremely large thunderstorm! They are called supercells!

Did you know that tornadoes can accompany tropical storms and hurricanes when they are on land! They can live for 1, 2, 3, or even 4 hours! A tornado’s winds can reach up to 300 mph!

Rotating thunderstorms are the best predictors of tornado activity! They are well defined thunderstorms on radar that may include hail, strong winds, lightning, or flash floods!

Most twisters or cyclones travel from southwest to northeast and can move in the opposite direction for short period of time! A tornado can even backtrack if it is hit by winds from the eye of the thunderstorm!

A tornado may appear nearly transparent until dust gets picked up or a cloud forms in it! It is because it is made out of wind and I am sure that wind is invisible. Some tornadoes you can’t see,  but their high wind speeds and rapid rotation often form a visible funnel of condensed water!

Tornadoes most likely to occur between 3pm to 9pm, but it can also occur anytime. A tornado’s whirling winds can reach up to 300 mph!

Tornadoes is not fully understood about how exactly they form, Grow and die. Tornado researchers are still trying to solve the tornado puzzle, but for every piece that seems to fit they often uncover new pieces that need to be studied!

The Fujita Scale is a common way of measuring tornadoes! The scale ranges in F0 tornadoes that cause minimal damage through to F5 tornadoes which causes massive damage!

Tornadoes are also called twisters and cyclones with violent weather! They are mostly grey colour tint just like the colour of an elephant's trunk!

Tornadoes also occasionally occur in south-central and east Asia, northern and east-central south America,  New Zealand and more. Most commonly are observed to occur in the Tornado Alley, ranging from the state of Texas to Iowa, in the United States! Except Antarctica, tornadoes can occur any time and in any place!

Some tornadoes make a very loud noise and others make only a little bit of noise. It depends on the objects a tornado might hit or carry. A tornado moving along an open plain may make not much noise

Some people think the crop circles in the United Kingdom are the result of weak whirlwinds. About 60 of these small tornadoes are formed every year in Britain!

Over two thousand tornadoes occur worldwide each year, with the majority of the tornadoes occurring in the United States, with means 3 out of 4 tornadoes occurring in the United States! Wow.

Tornadoes are big and also strong. They occur 1,000 times each year! Fortunately in New Zealand tornadoes aren't too popular and strong.

Stormy Night

This term we have been learning about weather! In art I created a stormy night painting. First I painted the background, we had to do dark colours to light colours! The colours we had to use were dark blue darker than the black, light blue, and blackish grey. Then I had to make the silhouette! We had to use a white crayon to draw the silhouette on black paper. then we cut it out. Then the next day after all the paint dried, I painted the storm could! I used black paint, we had to paint it in a dabbing motion. After that I had to paint the lightning with white paint. We had tiny thin brushes to paint them. After all of that I stuck the silhouette to the panting with pva glue.
